The evening is crisp and the breeze blowing gently over the water, meeting up with Mike Chase the new CO of Station Promethium to sit down and interview him
We are here to find out whom the man leads the guardians here at the station to become successful and productive members of SLCG and serve the community that they have now officially become a part of:
PO1 Asa Darkbyrd:
Good evening, Sir. I wanted to start by saying thank you for agreeing to meet with me and interview you for the SLCG Magazine. As you know, we are making Station Promethium and District 2 the theme of this month’s magazine, being that you are the new CO for Promethium, I am taking this opportunity to speak with you on how it is going.
The other reason is to find out what your thoughts and plans are for the future of this station, the area, and how you will accomplish this not only as leaders but as a team.
Hello Sir, Are you the new CO of Station Promethium under the leadership of the newly appointed DCO Neil Langdon? To introduce myself, I am PO1 Asa Darkbyrd Assistant Editor at the SLCG Magazine, which is recently re-birthing itself just like District 2 lol. Hence, it’s great to be a part of the joint remaking of the two departments.
So how does it feel to be the Station Promethium CO? It’s a new station, Belisaria is a new area, you just recently got hired into the position, so congratulations to you. What are the things you are learning and finding to be a challenge during this process?
ENS Mike Chase:
“Thanks. I think it’s a real opportunity. It’s the first station to focus on the Bellisseria people and lands. But given the inability to have substations there, it will present some patrolling issues.
PO1 Asa Darkbyrd:
So are they receiving you well here in District 2? As you know you are the first face of SLCG to the Bellseria community and the ones that they see now when we are patrolling back and forth over their area, how is that going so far?
ENS Mike Chase:
“They have a very active community with daily activities. Opportunities to serve them and introduce them to the SLCG and patrols come from Station Kania and Station Cranberry over the hill. “
PO1 Asa Darkbyrd:
So I noticed you said that you are having challenges with the patrolling of Section 7, because of the area being more land than water, how are you overcoming that issue? Do you make that a flying zone, what is your solution to making patrolling easy in Sector 7?
ENS Mike Chase:
“The ACV is the perfect patrol vehicle. You can patrol on the water until the stream dries out and then take it on land. There are always issues. But they are adding more land and waterways as well; they have much space to add to that area still from what they say. I have a new crew, and so we get to figure new things out.”
PO1 Asa Darkbyrd:
Oh yes, your crew is from the newly and recently graduated SR’s, and also noticed a few of them have been from other established stations. And you also do not have an XO yet.
ENS Mike Chase:
We will hopefully have an XO by the end of the day today. LOUSNTAK was the honors grad, and Viggo is a patrol monster. Both are engaged, taking Flight Safety School, and working on qualifications. We even get our very first SR rotating through here this week! Super exciting. I do. I try to get to know the crew as the real people they are. I then know how to encourage and motivate them and support them. We’re going to do Joint Patrols and exercises here soon as they gain experience and qualifications. And as I get an XO to help lighten the load.
PO1 Asa Darkbyrd:
Oh nice so you have a great active crew, I heard one of your members has recently taken a bit of LOA? I hope everything is okay.
ENS Mike Chase:
We have one reservist and one MCPO who just returned from RL active duty and transferred from Station H.
PO1 Asa Darkbyrd:
Excellent, so you have a military member coming back from serving overseas on active duty? Who is it? I saw the pictures saying they have transferred to station H, would you care to give them props on that recognize them being on the front lines for the people?
ENS Mike Chase:
SPCO Haryja Aya
PO1 Asa Darkbyrd:
Thank you Sir, I’m proud of our service members who serve our country not only in real life but also serve as a part of something special here in SLCG. We are all proud of her and the others that have served and are serving. Thank you for your service SLCG Members, whether you are serving or have served both American or European. So who is your first SR to rotate through Station Promethium?
ENS Mike Chase:
SR Zekale. This is his 5th station, but he’s our first SR.
In closing this interview, I would like to thank you so much, Sir, for your time. I have enjoyed our conversation. Thank you for being a part of our newest area and taking on the responsibility of both XO and CO until you are elected a new one to help you carry on in your duties.
Also, I would like to shout out to each of you station members; you are now the new district’s face, go out there, serve with fire and courage, be a part of the community, and allow the community to be a part of you.
This is PO1 Asa Darkbyrd closing out with a huge thank you, and good luck to District 2.
